3 – Anybody
About
Anybody was the first song I ever released on the 13th of July 2017. It is also the third track on the album Surreal.
The song itself is about the struggles of being single.

Him, you, I guess he’s in love with your room
New, blue, he kisses anyone but you.
Anybody who wants somebody is trying to bring my vibe down
And anybody who has somebody knows something’s got to give, it’s not me.
Anybody
Anybody
Wide eyes, you almost have him hypnotised
Joke, jibe, anything to keep him alive.
Anybody who wants somebody is trying to bring my vibe down
And anybody who has somebody knows something’s got to give, it’s not me.
Anybody
Anybody
If this is the cure for a summer heartache
I’ll drown this down in alcoholic ways
Anybody who wants somebody is trying to bring my vibe down
And anybody who has somebody knows something’s got to give, it’s not me.

The writing process
I wanted to write a song that sounded like a poppy club track, but had a band behind it, not just all electronic beats.
I began by writing the first verse with simple one syllable words that rhymed. I built upon that and for the build-up “Anybody who wants somebody…” I added the drum kit, bass guitar and organ. I ended up playing around with it and I kept saying the word ‘Anybody’ while making a melody and it just stuck.
For the drop I was really happy when I found that synth sound. I feel like it went really well with the subtle guitar and the fast drum beat. It was a sound I had wanted to create for ages. At the time it was my ideal mix of guitar and synths. I’ve built upon this for other tracks, turning up the guitar to make it sound slightly heavier, but this is where I first created the sound.
Other notes
- Since it’s the first song I released it’s likely this song will almost always be in the set for live shows.
- If I’m playing a live set ‘Alright’ and ‘Anybody’ are the two songs most likely to get on the set from the first EP.
- While this is the first song I released as ‘Lewis Poole’ I have written and released songs before in previous bands/projects.
- The first song I ever wrote was called Together and it was a rip-off of Green Day’s Wake Me Up When September Ends, but in a different key. For obvious reasons this did not get released – plus I was 12.
